A freak goal consigned Harriers to defeat once more, edging them closer to the drop and moving Braintree into the play-offs. Luke Maxwell's goal four minutes after the interval levelled the scores, rattling in a shot off the crossbar after being set up by Ben Whitfield. The home team had taken the lead on the half hour when Chez Isaac held off the challenge of Maxwell to slot past Dean Snedker. Harriers, without Harry White whose loan spell from Barnsley had ended, gave a first start to Evan Garnett and almost gave the visitors the lead when Whitfield's ball into the box looped up off a defender and dropped invitingly for him but his volley was blocked by Sam Habergham. After the break Harriers were more positive and could have levelled the scores before Maxwell's strike; Tyrone Williams' pass set up Whitfield who saw his shot saved by Town keeper Tom King. Moments after the equaliser Harriers could have gone ahead but Arthur Gnahoua fired over the bar. On the hour Braintree regained the lead; Snedker came racing out of the penalty area to head clear a long ball, his clearance fell to Matt Paine after Ousmane Fané's half-hearted attempt to help it on and the Town defender lofted a shot back over the keeper from the halfway line. On a very difficult surface Harriers tried to get back into the game once more but didn't really test King; their last real chance fell to Gnahoua who had a shot blocked after being set up by a good run from Garnett. With just ten games left to play Harriers remain rooted to the foot of the table ten points from safety. |
