Three early goals from Harriers saw them sink Macclesfield and record their third win in-a-row. Following on from the midweek win over Eastleigh Harriers made just one change to the team; Tyrone Williams came in for his first start, in midfield, in place of the injured Elton Ngwatala. It was The Silkmen who started dangerously, though; from a corner on the right Neil Byrne rose to head goalwards powerfully but Harry White was well-positioned to clear off the line. Harriers took the lead after just nine minutes, Ben Whitfield's left wing corner was bundled over the line at the far post by Keith Lowe, his first goal for Harriers since April 2009. Harriers doubled their advantage on the quarter-hour mark; Whitfield's pass setting up White, is shot wasn't the most powerful but Shwan Jalal couldn't keep it out, the ball squirming through his grasp and into the net. The great start by the home side continued midway through the half with the best move of the game; Luke Maxwell won the ball deep in his own half and sprayed a pass out the Whitfield on the right wing, his low cross to the far post found Arthur Gnahoua, playing against his former team, who fired past Jalal. Macclesfield's start to the game was so bad that they made a double-substitution after less than 30 minutes, former Harrier Reece Styche - making his first start - one of those pulled, but it made little difference as the damage was already done. After the interval Macclesfield showed more determination and enjoyed most of the possession but they didn't look like getting a foothold in the game; Harriers' midfield trio of Williams, Maxwell and Ousmane Fané were able to control the game and the back four were able to deal with anything that got through to them. Eventually The Silkmen pulled a goal back in the last minute; Kristian Dennis blasting a free-kick over the wall and into the top corner of the net from 25 yards out. |
