Match Report by St@tto

Harriers were denied a share of the points by Gateshead's 93rd minute winner

The hosts had done enough to earn at least one point, and with better finishing all three in a game spoiled by strong winds.

Both teams started brightly despite the conditions with Dean Snedker in the Harriers goal being called upon to make a double save from Ryan Bowman and Paddy McLaughlin and Sam Russell at the other end saving from Jordan Jones all inside the first three minutes.

Harriers had the benefit of the wind at their backs in the first half but failed to adapt and make the most of it.  It was nearly half-time before Gurjit Singh, making his first start since September, cut in from the right wing and tested Russell with a shot that was straight at him.

Early in the second half Singh then missed a glorious chance to give Harriers the lead; Jones did well on the right before pulling the ball back to the unmarked striker at the far post but with the goal at his mercy he fired over the bar.

Just before the hour mark man-of-the-match Snedker was called into action again, pushing CJ Hamilton's free-kick onto the bar and then saving from George Honeyman who was following up.  Snedker made an even better save later on to deny Honeyman again who had been left unmarked at the far post, getting a hand down to keep the shot out despite his body heading in the wrong direction.

Gateshead dominated possession in the second period, making use of the conditions far better than Harriers had, limiting the home team to few opportunities to take the lead and themselves being denied only by the form of Snedker.

Harriers introduced a surprise new signing in the shape of young striker Omari Patrick and he was given his debut as a substitute for the last 25 minutes.  He was the only Harrier to test Russell in the second half but his shot from a narrow angle was kept out by the keeper's legs.

Three minutes from time James McQuilkin went close to grabbing a late winner for Harriers with free-kick that beat the wall but also went over the bar.  As it seemed as the game would end in a goalless draw Harriers switched off three minutes into stoppage time and failed to clear a throw-in from the left, the ball dropping the McLaughlin who drilled a low shot past Snedker to claim all three points for the visitors.
