Match Report by St@tto

Rookie goalkeeper Alex Palmer was Harriers' hero at Holker Street twice saving penalties to earn them a point.

With leading scorer Gurjit Singh unavailable through injury Aman Verma returned to the starting line-up to partner Reece Styche in attack, with Jordan Jones keeping his place on the right after scoring twice at Bromley in midweek.  Youngster Nathan Millichamp was handed a spot on the bench after signing pro-terms yesterday.

Harriers started brightly and took the lead after just five minutes; skipper Jared Hodgkiss launched a long pass out of defence as Harriers broke up a Barrow attack setting Styche away on the left, he kept his cool to slot his shot under Joel Dixon in the home goal to record his fourth goal of the season, twice as many as he managed last term.

At the other end the home side were a threat from set pieces; Andy Haworth went close with a free-kick from just out side the penalty area that beat the wall but also went over the bar.  Late in the half a good run by Ben van der Broek on the right saw him cross to the far post where Paddy Lacey headed over the bar.

After the break Barrow needed just six minutes to draw level; veteran left back Neil Ashton's deep cross from the left found Andy Cook at the far post who turned well past Kevin Toner and despatch a shot past Palmer that gave the keeper no chance.

On the hour Dave Symington almost gave the Cumbrians the lead but his free-kick over the wall was straight at Palmer and comfortably saved.  After Kelvin Langmead had brought down Andy Cook in the penalty area two minutes later Barrow had a golden chance to go ahead but Palmer stood up straight to keep out Cook's spot kick and then saved his follow-up shot with his legs.

Once they had allowed Barrow back into the game Harriers’ heads dropped and they offered no real threat to the home team's goal, managing just one shot in the whole of the second half that Luke Maxwell couldn't get on target.  Seven minutes from the end Barrow had another chance to take all of the points; this time it was Jordan Tunnicliffe who was the culprit, bringing down Anthony Wilson in the penalty area.  Ashley Grimes took this penalty, but Palmer dived to his right to push the shot away and preserve a point for Harriers who remain rooted to the foot of the table.
