Match Report by St@tto

Two quick goals enabled Harriers to overcome in-form Gateshead and maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

The Tynesiders came to Aggborough in good form having lost just once so far this season and with a justified reputation for playing good football.

Gateshead dominated possession the first half with some nice passing movements although they lacked penetration and didn't really test a Harriers side that was set out to combat them with Jamie Grimes in an advanced midfield position behind lone-striker Nathan Blissett with Craig Reid out wide.  Chey Dunkley returned to the side after suspension to partner skipper Josh Gowling in the heart of the defence.

It was the visitors who had the best chance to open the scoring in the first half; JJ O'Donnell's free-kick beating the wall but also Danny Lewis's left-hand post.  At the other end Blissett almost got lucky with a header that bounced in front of goal that former Harrier Adam Bartlett had to tip over the bar for safety.

Harriers switched back to their normal style after the interval and it immediately paid off.  From the kick-off Kevin Nicholson's long ball forward was flicked on by Blissett to Reid who despatched his shot beyond the reach of Bartlett to record his first goal for the club just eleven seconds into the new half.

Three minutes later Harriers doubled their advantage; Marvin Johnson's cross from the left found Blissett who direct a glancing header inside the far post for his first goal of the season.  The visitors were knocked out of their stride by the double salvo but managed to pull a goal back on 64 minutes; Andrai Jones getting to the byline on the right and crossing to the far post where Jon Shaw headed in from a narrow angle.

Gateshead were unable to break Harriers down further, though, and The Reds were able to see the game out and rise above the challenge of one of the teams that should be in or around the play-off / promotion race come the end of the season.
