A failure to take the chances that they created consigned Harriers to another season in the Conference. Needing a win to have any chance of taking the chase for the play-offs to the last game of the season Harriers started brightly and Callum Gittings fired wide inside the first ten seconds. Unchanged from the side that had beaten Hyde in the previous game Harriers had another good chance to open the scoring after four minutes with Gittings again shooting wide. Moments later Chey Dunkley headed into the side netting at the far post at a right wing corner. After the lively start the game soon began to peter out into a typical end-of-season affair. Harriers dominated the possession but could not break down the visitors. It was not until the hour mark that there was another clear cut goalscoring opportunity; this time it fell to Nuneaton; Danny Sleath's free-kick beating the wall and hitting the far post. Straight away Harriers attacked and Jack Byrne saw his 25-yard effort tipped over the bar for a corner. As the game wore on Nuneaton began to sniff the chance to grab a victory and came out of their shell more. Former Harrier Greg Pearson used his strength to hold off Mickey Demetriou before crossing low to Andy Brown who fired over the bar. With the two points dropped and results elsewhere going against them the best that Harriers can now hope for is finishing sixth for the third time in four seasons. |
