A much improved performance from Harriers saw them held to a goalless draw in an entertaining game at Wrexham. Gary Whild's first game in charge saw his side revert to the type of attacking football more familiar to Harriers fans. They also looked solid at the back and had Brett Ormerod's stoppage time shot beaten Danny Lewis to win the game it would have been an injustice. Lewis was one of a number of changes with Jamie Grimes coming into the side in place of the injured Chey Dunkley and Callum Gittings returning in place of Josh O'Keefe. The early exchanges were all Harriers but it was not until the half hour mark that they had a real clear-cut opportunity but after good build-up play by Gittings Adrian Cieslewicz and Amari Morgan-Smith Danny Jackman blasted his shot over the bar. Late in the half a free-kick from skipper Kyle Storer caused a scramble in the home goalmouth with Neil Ashton heading off the line before Anthony Malbon saw a shot saved by Andy Coughlin. The best chance of the half fell to Morgan-Smith but after being put in by Malbon shot straight at the keeper. Early in the second half Storer and Cieslewicz combined with the latter crossing from the right to the far post where Gittings, under pressure from his marker, fired over. On the hour Cieslewicz, playing well against his former side, set up Malbon but his shot was touched round the post by Coughlin. On 65 minutes Harriers had the ball in the net when Josh Gowling rose at the far post to meet a free-kick from deep on the left but his effort was ruled out by the linesman flagging for offside. Wrexham's cause was not helped on 79 minutes when former Harrier Andy Bishop was shown his second yellow card and sent off, the second time he had been dismissed against his former team this season. With three minutes to go Marvin Johnson made a strong run on the right before passing to Malbon on the left who cut inside and shot from just outside the penalty area only for Coughlin to get down well to his right to save. In stoppage time Grimes' headed clearance fell to Ormerod who ran on before hitting a long-range shot that Lewis did well to get his fingertips to to keep it out and ensure that Harriers took home a point. |
