Match Report by St@tto

A goal in each half from Robbie Willmott was enough to give Luton victory at Aggborough and leave Harriers still searching for their first-ever win over The Hatters.

An often frantic game was absorbing throughout even though Harriers, showing just one change - James Vincent in for the ill Jack Byrne - from the side that beat Kettering, were not at their best from the start. After a hundred-miles-per-hour opening 20 minutes Town began to et on top of the game and look the most likely to break the deadlock with Keith Keane shooting wide and having another shot saved and Aaron O'connor also failing to hit the target.

Harriers were also not helped by the loss of two defenders to injury before half time with Luke Jones limping out after 37 minutes, to be replaced by Michael Briscoe making his first appearance of the season, and Mike Williams also having to leave the game in stoppage time.  Williams' injury played a direct part in the opening goal as his hip injury stopped him from running at full speed and he was left for dead by the lively Amari Morgan-Smith who set up the chance for Willmott to side-foot home from close range on 39 minutes.

After the break Harriers played better but were finding the visitors hard to break down with Luton quick to close them down all over the pitch and strong at the back to the extend that Mark Tyler didn't make a single save all afternoon. Just past the hour mark Lee Vaughan made a good run on the right wing, his cross to the far post found Nick Wright who headed wide.

At the other end Town substitute Stuart Fleetwood made a surging run into the Harriers penalty area before setting up Willmott who saw his low shot well saved by the legs of Harriers' keeper Dean Lyness.  The game still ebbed-and-flowed and shortly afterwards Callum Gittings, filling in at left back, carried the ball forward through the inside-left channel before sliding it out to Wright on the wing who found Kyle Storer 20 yards out from goal but his shot went narrowly wide of the post.

The same Morgan-Smith Willmott combination created the second goal with nine minutes left; Morgan-Smith getting to the byline on the right and chipping a cross to the far post where an unmarked Willmott was able to head in.  Harriers pulled one back three minutes from the end, Marc Williams setting up Tom Sharpe with good work on the right for his first goal in a Harriers shirt. Harriers threw everything forward in a grandstand finish but were unable to get the equaliser with James Vincent coming closest shooting over from outside the penalty area..
