Match Report by St@tto

Harriers bounced back from their Opening Day defeat against Gateshead with a well-deserved, hard fought, win over newly-relegated Lincoln City at Sincil Bank.

Unchanged from the team that had been beaten by The Tynesiders Harriers gave a much better performance in a game that was very cagey in the first half-hour as the two teams tested each other out.  Harriers had an early chance with a free-kick from the right crossed towards the far post by Kyle Storer that City failed to deal with and eventually came back off the upright.

At the other end a long pass through the inside-left channel left Harriers looking for and offside flag that didn't come and left Sam Smith with a clear run on goal but he curled his shot beyond the reach of Danny Lewis and and the far post.

Harriers had the best of the goalscoring chances; on 32 minutes Storer found himself with time on his hands and lofted a ball forward towards Steve Guinan who saw his looping header held by home keeper Joe Anyon.  Shortly afterwards Guinan turned provider and set up Marc Williams but Anyon was equal to his curled shot and pushed it away for a corner.

The deadlock was broken four minutes before the interval; Storer again involved, his free-kick from deep on the left towards the near post was headed in by Callum Gittings who was allowed an unchallenged run to meet it.  In stoppage time Harriers could have doubled their advantage; Nick Wright ran clear from half-way, his pass to the far post found Guinan who saw his shot saved and Marc Williams fired the follow-up wide.

After the break Harriers continued to control the game, keeping the home team down to just one on-target shot, a tame effort from Sam Smith that Lewis was able to deal with comfortably.  John Nutter should have done better with a 25-yard fee-kick that he hit over the wall and over the crossbar just ahead of the hour mark.

Storer went closer with a 22-yard free-kick at the other end, his 77th minute shot beat the wall but was punched away by Anyon.  In stoppage time there was another chance for Harriers to wrap up the game; James Vincent broke into the penalty area on the right, his shot was saved by Anyon - who kept his team in the game almost single-handedly throughout - and then Marc Williams' follow-up attempt was blocked by Ali Fuseini.
