Match Report by St@tto

Harriers stretched their unbeaten run to five games, four under new manager Steve Burr, with a hard-fought draw at Kassam Stadium against high-flying Oxford United who returned to the top of the table.

Marc Goodfellow came into the side for his debut, while Dean Coleman and Robbie Matthews returned to the starting line-up after missing the last couple of matches.

The home side could have taken the lead within the first twenty seconds, attack straight from the kick-off they worked Jamie Cook into goal-scoring position but he fired wide of Coleman's right-hand post.  The teams were fairly evenly matched and spent much of the opening period probing at each other, and largely canceling each other out.  Eventually Harriers carved out an opening; a good passing move worked the ball from the right flank to the left from where Lee Baker crossed low into the penalty area but Matthews was too hurried and fired wide.

At the other end a free kick taken by Sam deering from out on the right touchline found Rhys Day with a little too much room in the Harriers penalty area but he fired well wide of the near post.  Another good move by Harriers saw ex-Harrier Ryan Clarke called into action; Matthews' flick found Brian Smikle who laid the ball off to Goodfellow who hit a good shot from distance straight at the keeper.

Harriers were given another early scare just after the interval; Deering outpaced Martin Riley easily through the inside-right channel and pulled the ball back to the far post where another ex-Harrier, James Constable, mis-hit his shot, sending it wide.  Midway through the half Riley was in trouble again, once more outpaced by Deering but he and sub Matt Green got in each other's way and Coleman was able to make a good save from Deering's hurried shot, United's first on-target attempt of the afternoon.

Coleman was called into action again on 72 minutes, getting a fingertip to Simon Clist's free-kick from out on the right wing, pushing it away for a corner.  Having been forced back into their own half for much of the second half Harriers eventually threatened a goal with seven minutes left; Chris McPhee fed the ball to Smikle on the right who knocked it inside to substitute Damian spencer who couldn't get enough power on his shot and Clarke was able to save.

At the other end Dannie Bulman's right wing run and cross found Jack Midson at the far post who fired straight at Coleman.  Twice Midson was foiled by Coleman but still looked United's most likely source of a goal despite only coming off the bench with fifteen minutes remaining.  In stoppage time McPhee had a chance to win the game but his shot flew narrowly wide of the post.  There were also yellow cards handed out to Bulman and Spencer after an off-the-ball tussle, one of several clashes that will add some extra spice to the next meeting of the clubs in the FA Trophy Quarter Final.
