Harriers made their first appearance of the season in front of the Setanta cameras but failed to serve up a spectacle for the watching masses, their three-game winning streak brought to an end by their own inability to finish off a poor opponent. Gavin Hurren was brought into the side in place of suspended skipper Stuart Whitehead and Justin Richards returned to the starting line-up in place of Iyseden Christie. Woking started brightly and forced two corners in the opening couple of minutes and then after 10 minutes Marvin Morgan received the ball on the right and after a good turn shot wide of the far post. The rest of the half was scrappy, neither side managed to play much football; Woking looked a poor shadow of their formers selves and Harriers certainly didn't look like a team that had won three games in a row. The home side broke the deadlock nine minutes before half time when Richards was brought down in the penalty area by a clumsy challenge from Cards captain Tom Hutchinson. Richards himself took the penalty and sent keeper Ross Worner the wrong way to record his seventh goal of the season. The second half was no better, in truth it was probably worse, with little goalmouth action or decent football to commend it. Thirteen minutes from the end Harriers won a free-kick just outside the Woking penalty area and worked a training-ground routine that involved a committee of six players around the ball before Michael Blackwood fired a weak shot at Worner. A couple of minutes later Brian Smikle made a good run on the right and fed the ball to Richards whose shot flew over the bar. Five minutes from time Woking grabbed a surprise equaliser; Jay Gasson pumped a free-kick forward from inside his own half into the Harriers penalty area where substitute Giuseppe Sole was allowed to turn and tuck a shot past Chris MacKenzie. |
