Match Report by St@tto

Harriers followed up their mauling at Grays with another disappointing performance, although one that was not quite as bad.  Sloppy defending cost them the game gifting two goals to Stevenage in the first half hour.

Mark Yates made changes to the team that had lost in Essex, Jon Munday was left out with skipper Stuart Whitehead returning to the starting line-up for the first time this season while on the left flank Jonny Harkness and Michael Blackwood switched positions.

Harriers were given an early warning when John Nutter's cross from deep on the left found Steve Morison who headed against the bar.  The opening goal came shortly afterwards; the Harriers defence was split wide open by a crossfield pass from the right that picked out Daryl McMahon in the inside-left channel, he broke into the penalty area and tucked his shot under Scott Bevan.  On the half hour Bevan's mistake lead to the second goal his clearance fell to Adam Miller 30 yards out who lobbed it straight back in to the unguarded net.

The only action of note at the other end in the opening half came from James Constable who picked up the ball in midfield and carried it forward through the centre of visiting defence before shooting wide from the edge of the penalty area.

After the break Harriers improved a little; a left wing cross was knocked down by Brian Smikle to substitute Iyseden Christie who fired his shot high and wide.  Bevan made up for his earlier error pushing away a header by Morison from Craig Dobson's cross.  Harriers were still making errors at the back, however; fifteen minutes from the end Mark Creighton headed the ball down in his own penalty area to Stuart Lewis who, fortunately for Harriers, shot wide from 10 yards out.  Moments later the defence was split wide open again, the cross from the right found McMahon at the far post but he shot wide.

Ten minutes from the end Harriers had the ball in the net, Matthew Barnes-Homer steering the ball past Alan Julian but the play was pulled back to award a free-kick to Harriers.  In stoppage time Harriers went close again; Russ Penn's pass through the inside-right channel found Constable whose low shot was saved by Julian at the expense of a corner.
