Match Report by St@tto

It was a case of "After the Lord Mayor's Show" for Harriers who were held to a drab goalless draw at lowly Tamworth.

After the euphoria of the weekend's FA Trophy success tonight's game was always likely to end in anti-climax but Harriers would still have hoped to have performed better than they did.  There were a lot of weary legs on show in a line-up that contained just one change from the side that faced Northwich at the weekend, Jake Sedgemore coming in for Gavin Hurren in the centre of midfield.  The Lambs included several ex-Harriers in their side: Simon Heslop, Taiwo Atieno, John McGrath and former Aggborough trialists Michael Briscoe and Kyle Storer.

In an all-round drab, lacklustre, encounter action and excitement were at a minimum and there were few goalscoring chances for either side in the first half-hour.  Three ex-Harriers combined for Tamworth to create an opening that should have broken the deadlock; Heslop's shot was parried by Steve Taylor, in the Harriers goal again in place of the injured Scott Bevan, and the ball ran to Atieno who pulled it back to McGrath who blasted it over both bar and roof of the stand behind the goal.  Greame Law's cross from the right found Jake Edwards late in the half but he headed wide of the near post.

Harriers had their best spell of the game early in the second half.  Iyseden Christie did well to get his head on Jonny Harkness' right-wing corner as he was being jostled by goalkeeper Jose Veiga but his goal-bound effort was cleared off the line by McGrath.  Just before the hour mark Michael Blackwood got free on the left and his cross to the far post was just a fraction too far ahead of Christie for him to control his shot and it went wide.

Taylor made the save of the game with eighteen minutes remaining, Edwards received the ball on the left and turned and hit a dipping shot that they rookie keeper did well to tip over for a corner.  Late on Atieno should have won the game for the home side, put through in the inside right channel his shot went wide of the far post, although the officials managed to see a deflection and awarded a corner.

Fortunately for Harriers results elsewhere were not too bad and the two points dropped have not harmed their hopes of making it into the play-offs.
