Match Report by St@tto

All that will matter to Harriers after this dull match is that the records will show that they picked up all three points and ended their four-game Conference losing streak.

Following on from their weekend defeat against Gravesend the home side welcomed back skipper Stuart Whitehead and Iyseden Christie from suspension but their presence didn't really give the lift to the performance that would have been hoped for.  The heavy rain over the past few days had made the pitch difficult also which led to a poor game.

The most interesting thing to happen in the first half was the scoreboard breaking down for a few minutes early on; the only goalscoring chance in the first 20 minutes fell to the visitors but Tom Kearney's shot after Harriers had only half-cleared a free-kick cleared the crossbar and the roof of the stand.  Harriers took the lead after half an hour; James Constable's cross from the right was turned into his own net by Shaymen defender Ryan Toulson who met it with a fine diving header at the near post.

After the break the game was little better until midway through the half when Harriers began their best spell of the game.  A Jonny Harkness corner from the left on 66 minutes picked out the head of Mark Creighton who powered a header straight at Craig Mawson in the visiting goal.  Shortly afterwards another Harkness corner found Gavin Hurren but his looping header was easy for Mawson to gather.

Harriers began to pile on the pressure and a long, searching, cross-field pass from Hurren held up in the mud on the right flank allowing Constable to keep it in play and set up Simon Russell who fired narrowly wide of the near post.  Russell was involved again moments later, his cross from the right found Michael Blackwood at the far post but his close range header was kept out by a great save by Mawson at the expense of a corner.  From the resulting corner Harkness' cross found Constable who headed wide of the far post.  In the closing minutes Harriers could have put the result beyond doubt; Toulson fouled Constable but the referee waved play on as the ball ran to substitute Luke Reynolds, his shot was a good one but again Mawson was on form to tip it away for another corner.
