Match Report by St@tto

Harriers stretched their winning streak in the Conference to five games, the first time since April 2000 that they have managed the feat, and moved up to tenth place in the league.

As expected Luke Reynolds came in in place of Iyseden Christie as the only change from the team that had won at Southport in the previous game.  The weather was once again a factor in the game, strong winds and heavy rain at times both having an effect on play.  Harriers played the better football in the early stages but the visitors had the wind at their backs and were able to clear most attacks without too much trouble.

Stand-in Cambridge keeper Shane Herbert was called into action early; Michael Blackwood's cross from the left was missed in the middle and fell to simon russell at the far post but the keeper was alert enough to save.  Midway through the half a Jonny Harkness corner from the left found James Constable who headed weakly at Herbert.  Scott Bevan at the other end was in good form again; Jon Brady received the ball on the right and cut inside before shooting from the edge of the area, Bevan may feel that he should have held the shot but instead parried it into the path of Robbie Simpson but somehow managed to get a hand up to push his follow-up shot away.  Just past the half hour he was called into action again, Courtney Pitt's cross from the left found Brady but Bevan was quickly across to save his header.

Reynolds should have opened the scoring shortly after the interval, his lack of match practice showing when he delayed too long in getting his shot off after being put through by Bevan's long kick and Andy Duncan was able to get back and make a good tackle.  Shortly afterwards Reynolds and blackwood combined to set up Constable but he headed wide from an offside position.

Back at the other end Bevan kept the visitors at bay with a full-length dive to his right to push away Brady's free-kick.  The deadlock was broken on 65 minutes; Gavin Hurren picked up a long ball through the middle and ran at the heart of the United defence before unleashing an unstoppable drive that gave Herbert no chance and went in off the post.

After Reynolds had seen his glancing header from Harkness' free-kick go just wide United had the ball in the net when Simpson headed in but the goal was disallowed because Michael Morrison had been pushing in the build up.  Harriers felt that they should have had a penalty 11 minutes from the end when Andy White was clearly hauled down in the area by the shirt but the referee waved play on.  In the last minute Cambridge almost snatched an equaliser when Bevan's poor kick went to Mark Peters whose cross to the far post found Liam Marum but Bevan got back across to beat his shot away for a corner.  From the corner there was a scramble in the goalmouth with the ball ricocheting around before it was eventually hacked clear.  In stoppage the visitors had another chance to equalise but Duncan headed wide from Pitt's free-kick.
