Match Report by St@tto |
An incident-packed match saw Rushden record their first Football League victory over
Kidderminster and inflict Harriers' first defeat of the season.
Rushden attackecd from the start and almost opened the scoring after 13 minutes when a short free-kick went to Stuart Gray who struck his shot against the post from 22 yards out. The opening goal was not long in coming, however, Talbot's corner from the right found Flynn at the far post who headed into his own net. Harriers did more attacking than in their previous match, and came close to an equaliser seven minutes into the second half. A free-kick was pumped into the penalty area where it was mishit by Danny Williams but fell for substitute Lee Ayres whose volley almost crept over the head of Billy Turley in the Diamonds' goal. A good ove on the right got Sean Parrish into the penalty area but he shot wide. On the hour, Harriers were reduced to ten men when Drewe Brougton received his second yellow card of the afternoon after referee Foy decided that he had led with his elbow when challenging Barry Hunter. Within minutes the deficit was doubled, Williams was adjudged to have tripped Duane Darby in the penalty area, and Stuart Gray stepped up to fire the spot kick straight past Stuart Brock. Harriers continued to press and pulled a goal back with fourteen minutes remaining, Flynn's short free kick found Wiliams who struck a low shot into the bottom corner of the net. At the other end, Brock was keeping Diamonds at bay with good saves from Darby and Stuart Wardley. Ten minutes from time Harriers almost drew level, Flynn's quickly taken free kick set up Henriksen but he fired his shot across the face of goal and Ian Foster was unable to connect to turn it in. Rushden killed the game off within seconds, Onandi Lowe getting to the byline and squaring for Darby who fired in from close range. |
