Match Report |
A single goal was enough for Kidderminster to record their second
consecutive away win, and progress to the second round of the LDV
Trophy.
Despite facing lower league opposition, Harriers didn't dominate the game as they would have hoped and in the first half Rovers were probably the slightly better team. The home team had the best of the scoring chances, Andy Watson got away from Ian Joy on the right and found Gareth Owen, but somehow he steeered the ball over the bar. At the other end, Harriers had a greater number of chances ut they were inaccurate and wasteful with them. Straight after the interval Doncaster went close again. Tony Bird fouled Dean Barrick outside the penalty area and Owen rattled the crossbar with the free-kick. Harriers gradually began to exert themselves and took the bold step after an hour of making a double substitution and changing the formation to 4-3-3. The switch soon paid off when the Rovers offside trap was sprung and Larkin lobbed the keeper for his second goal in the games. In the process of scoring, Larkin was hurt by his collision with Richardson and received tretment for some time. Harriers boss Jan Molby didn't seem happy with the keeper's challenge and took his protest too far, referee Clattenburg had no hesitation in ordering him from the dugout. With time running out Doncaster switched to three up front in an effort to send the game into extra-time. They threw as many bodies forward as they could, but Harriers' back line stood firm and Eric Nixon in goal used all his years of experience to successfully take as much time off the clock as possible. |
