Match Report |
The meeting of the last two Conference Champions ended with a resounding
victory for visiting Kidderminster. Kidderminster made changes t
their winning team to compensate for the physical style of Cheltenham with
Tony Bird, Drewe Broughton and Paul Webb all returning.
The tactic worked a treat as Harriers rolled up their sleeves and got stuck into their task. It didn't take long for the game to start becoming bad tempered, Broughton and Mark Sertori were never far apart ad there were several other battles going on around the pitch. Kidderminster were also playing the better football and created a number of good openings in the early stages, Broughton shot wide and Banks sliced a clearance onto the roof his own net. It was no surprise, then, when Harriers took the lead, although the free-kick that led to the goal clearly didn't work as planned. Daire Doyle's cross for the second goal also appeared to be intended as a shot rather than a pass, but that worked out better in the end. With the dismissal of Howells for an off-the-ball challenge on Broughton Cheltenham were forced to re-organise, although this didn't happen until after the break when they came out looking for an early goal. For a brief period of the second half Kidderminster were forced onto the back foot and Cheltenham scored the goal that they desperately wanted. The comeback didn't last long, however, Daire Doyle was having an inspired game on the left of midfield and it was his incursion into the home penalty area that led to Broughton heading in the third to settle any nerves and to wrap up the game. From now on all Cheltenham resistance was ended and Kidderminster had their first away win since October, and their first on a Saturday all season. |
