Honours Even In Goalless Draw

Both teams had a player sent off as a dour derby game ended all-square at Bromsgrove's Victoria Ground.

Harriers brought back Mani Dieseruvwe to the starting line-up in place of Andre Brown who dropped down to the bench as the only change from the side that had beaten Darlington in the previous game.

Goalmouth action was in short supply as the home side set out to frustrate Harriers and stop them from playing their normal passing game on a difficult surface.  A good move started by Ryan Croasdale who found Tyrell Waite and in turn Elton Ngwatala ended with the latter's cross being put wide by James McQuilkin.

At the other end a pass by Chekaine Steele set former Harrier Lee Hughes clear, beating the offside trap, but his shot was saved by the legs of Sam Hornby.  Shortly before the interval Hughes got to the byline on the right; his pull-back was cleared by Jordan Tunnicliffe but hit Junior English and went wide.

Early in the second half McQuilkin tried his luck from distance but his shot was blocked.  The game then sprang to life on 56 minutes when McQuilkin was hacked down by Sam Oji as he broke through the inside-right channel, the home defender rightly being sent-off.

With a numerical advantage Harriers enjoyed more of the possession but still could not break down the home defence.  With 17 minutes remaining a half-cleared corner fell to Croasdale 25 yards out, he hit a crisp shot goalwards but it went narrowly wide.

Five minutes later Harriers were reduced to ten men when Croasdale was shown a second yellow card of the afternoon after being forced into a needless challenge by poor Harriers defending.

In the closing stages Harriers pressed hard for a winner; Darryl Knights, on as a substitute, saw one shot hit the side netting and then had another cleared off the line, fellow sub Brown followed up but was ruled offside.

In the last minute McQuilkin had a good chance with a free-kick 25 yards out the beat the wall but was saved by home keeper Ethan Ross as it headed for the top corner.
