Harriers avoided a potential banana skin to progress in the FA Cup at Lancaster City. Harriers made a bright start to the game with Andre Brown making his first start after coming off the bench and scoring at Alfreton last weekend. The visitors took the lead after 19 minutes; Arthur Gnahoua's corner from the left was not cleared and when Elton Ngwatala's shot was blocked Brown was on hand to turn and fire past Mike Hale. The lead lasted just four minutes, though, City carved straight through the middle of the Harriers defence with Billy Akrigg breaking into the penalty area before rolling the ball to Jordan Connerton who was left with a simple tap in. An entertaining cup tie flowed from end-to-end and Harriers should have regained the lead before the interval, first when Ryan Croasdale fired straight at Hale after good work by Tyrell Waite and then when James McQuilkin pounced on a loose ball in the box but his shot was blocked for a corner. As it seemed that they teams would head into the break all-square the home side took the lead in stoppage time; Akrigg picked up the ball deep in the inside-right channel after a poor clearance and fired a 35-yard shot beyond the reach of Sam Hornby into the far top corner. Harriers came out after the break on the offensive; two minutes into the half McQuilkin's corner from the right was not cleared properly, the same player was able to cross again for Jordan Tunnicliffe who headed over the bar. In the 48th minute Harriers were level, though; the ball was lofted over the defence into the penalty area to McQuilkin whose shot towards the far post was turned in by Brown. Four minutes later Harriers were ahead again; Waite received the ball on the right and got to the byline before threading a shot in at the far post from a very narrow angle. The home side didn't give up and pressed for an equaliser but Harriers' superior qulity and fitness allowed them to control the game. Midway through the half substitute Sam Austin could have increased the advantage when he was set clear through the middle but his shot hit the post. In stoppage time Austin set up McQuilkin but his shot was kept out by the home side's man-of-the-match Hale. |
