Match Report by St@tto

Harriers turned on the style to demolish League Two Newport County and reach the FA Cup 3rd Round.

Steve Burr, celebrating his 200th game in charge, named a full-strength side after resting key players for last weekend's FA Trophy tie.

Two goals apiece from Michael Gash and Callum Gittings saw off Harriers' visitors but not before Newport had had chances to open the scoring themselves.  Young striker Connor Washington fired across the face of goal after a magnificent turn in the penalty area leaving most in the ground thinking the ball was going to nestle in the bottom corner.

Gash opened the scoring after 18 minutes, cutting in from the right and curling a shot beyond the reach of Lenny Pidgeley with the outside of his right boot.  Gittings had a snap shot saved by Pidgeley before being in the right place at the right time to pick up on the loose ball after Joe Lolley's shot had been parried.

Lolley was provider again three minutes before the break, his pass splitting the County defence wide open allowing Gittings a clear run on goal before slotting his shot round the keeper to make it 3-0.

Both sides exchanged blows as they continued to go for it in an entertaining cup tie; Adam Chapman lofted a shot just over the bar from inside his own half while Robbie Willmott crashed a shot against the bar and Lolley shot wide.

Harriers increased their lead further on 63 minutes; a training ground routine 25 yards from goal saw Gash blast a low shot past the wall and into the bottom corner of the net to record his seventh goal of the season.

With twelve minutes remaining Newport pulled a goal back; Michael Flynn's shot was cleared off the line but Willmott was on hand to fire in the loose ball.  The same player then got on the end of Andy Sandell's right-wing cross to head in another four minutes later to set up what could have been a tense end to the game.

Harriers were never really in trouble, though, and saw out the remaining time comfortably to take their place in the Third Round for the first time since 2008-09.
