Match Report by St@tto

Harriers bounced back from midweek defeat in fine style to beat promotion rivals Grimsby on their own patch.

One of the best performances from Harriers of the season so far saw them ease past their hosts who suffered a home defeat for the first time since October.

Steve Burr changed the side around again with both Michael Gash and Martin Devaney coming in for their first starts while Keith Briggs and Danny Jackman came back into the side in midfield.

In front of Grimsby's second-highest crowd of the season so far the teams spent some time testing each other out. The first half-hour or so was even with half chances at either end before the game came to life. Danny Lewis made a wonderful save to keep out a close-range header from Ross Hannah on the half-hour mark; within a minute Harriers had switched the play to the other end.  Kyle Storer broke up the play and set Mickey Demetriou away on the left, he sent over an excellent looping cross from the left to find Anthony Malbon at the far post who fired in his 13th goal of the season.

By the break Harriers were two up; again, not long after a Lewis save to keep out Hannah, this time after Marcus Marshall had made a good jinking run into the penalty area to set him up, the stopper pushing his low shot round the far post.  In stoppage Grimsby messed up a free-kick deep in Harriers territory, the visitors cleared to Malbon on the left who ran at the Town defence before switching the play to the opposite flank and Devaney who fed it to the overlapping Lee Vaughan whose low cross from the byline was turned in by Gash.

Grimsby came out after the break fired up and needed just four minutes to reduce the arrears, Ian Miller firing in from close range after Harriers had failed to clear a free-kick.  Harriers looked dangerous every time they attacked, though; Jackman won the ball deep in his own half and after carrying it forward launched a long ball to Malbon who flicked it into the path of and Devaney who was denied by a good save by James McKeown as he tried to lift the ball over him in an attempt to restore the two-goal advantage.  Danny Pilkington also went close while at the other end Jamie Devitt fired into the side netting and hit a free-kick over the bar.

Harriers wrapped the game up on 77 minutes; another good passing move saw Jackman set Pilkington away on the right, he got into the penalty area and squared the ball low to the far post where Malbon saw his shot well saved by McKeown only for it to cannon into the net off the knee of Bradley Wood.
