Match Report by St@tto

Tom Shaw's second goal in as many games was enough for Harriers to rack up their tenth home win of the season and move to within a point of the play-offs.

Down to the bare bones again - without injured Lee Morris, Matt Blair and Dave Hankin - and unable to name a full complement of substitutes, the team once again pulled together to pull off another excellent result seeing off the challenge of an in-form City side who had lost just one of  their previous five games coming into the game.

A strong wind helped to spoil the game as a spectacle but nonetheless Harriers played some decent football, City tried to also, to give them their due.  It was the visitors, in fact, who first threatened to open the scoring; Adam Connolly jinked his way into the penalty area before seeing his shot beat Danny Lewis and then skim the crossbar.

Just past the half-hour mark Mike Williams crossed from the left to Jack Byrne who got up well at the far post but visiting keeper Ryan Robinson got across and tipped his header around the post for a corner.  The breakthrough eventually arrived on 34 minutes when Chris McPhee set up Shaw who danced into the penalty area and lashed his shot into the roof of the net for his fourth goal of the season.  Before the beak Harriers could have doubled their advantage; McPhee set Byrne clear on the right his cross deceived Robinson and hit the far post before rebounding to safety.

After the break Harriers had the wind at their backs and would have hoped to have capitalised on it more but the game became more scrappy. Early in the second half an intricate passing move through the middle ended with Mark Albrighton, of all people, setting up Nick Wright who fired wide across the face of goal from a narrow angle.

At the other end City attacked quite well without really threatening, although they did give Harriers a scare on the hour when Kaid Mohamed was allowed to run and run from deep through the inside left channel before firing in a shot that clipped the crossbar.  With a little over a quarter of an hour remaining Joe Burnell headed over the bar at the far post from a right-wing corner, but generally the Harriers defence stood firm.

In the closing minutes McPhee's long pass over the visiting defence picked out skipper Keith Briggs who headed narrowly wide of Robinson's left-hand post from the edge of the penalty area and then moments later Callum Gittings' corner from the left found Albrighton who had his header blocked.  Deep into stoppage time the visitors had one last chance to get something from the game when they were awarded a free-kick just outside the penalty area; Mohamed's shot beat the wall and found substitute Ben Watson who saw his shot saved by Lewis and Harriers were able to see out the remaining time to take all of the points.
