Match Report by St@tto

Harriers completed their home campaign in disappointment, allowing sloppy defending and wasteful finishing to hand the points to the visitors.

Having lost their previous home game to Stevenage Harriers slumped to their sixth defeat in ten games, including a league double by Barrow, and are left in mid-table with only an outside chance of a top-ten finish.

Things started well for Harriers with Martin Riley heading at Barrow keeper Stuart Tomlinson in the fifth minute after rising to meet Darryl Knights' corner.  Just two minutes later Harriers took the lead; Chris McPhee did well to pounce on the loose ball after Tomlinson lost possession and his shot was turned into his own net by defender Paul Edwards.

The lead was short-lived, though, and the visitors were level just eleven minutes later.  A long ball through the middle of the defence caused a mix-up between Luke Prosser and Riley allowing Jason Walker in and his shot squirmed past Jasbir Singh and left Walker with an easy tap-in to score.

Harriers created a number of chances, though, but could not find a way through; another nights corner was headed across goal by Riley and this time it was McPhee who headed straight at Tomlinson midway through the half. Ten minutes before the break a good passing move saw Prosser and Brian Smikle combine to set Lee Baker away on the left, his run and cross found McPhee who saw his volley saved and when the defence failed to clear Smikle followed-up to head against the post.

Two minutes before the break more sloppy defending gifted the visitors the lead; Duane Courtney headed the ball back to Singh who fumbled it straight to Walker who was able to head in his second of the game.

Early in the second half Barrow should have increased their lead; Simon Wiles ghosted past Courtney easily but blasted his shot over the bar from the edge of the penalty area.  Shortly afterwards Knights picked out Riley yet again from a corner but the unmarked defender headed wide of the near post.

Harriers created chance after chance, more than enough to have not only got back into the game but also to have gone on to win it but they were wasteful in front of goal.  A good passing move just past the hour mark saw McPhee set up Jack Byrne whose shot was kept away by the feet of Tomlinson.  With twenty minutes remaining Lloyd Kerry fed the ball to Knights on the left wing but his cross flew across the face of goal just ahead of Smikle.

In stoppage time Harriers continued to press; Kerry's corner from the right found McPhee but he headed weakly at the keeper and then Kerry himself made a good run into the penalty area but his shot was blocked by Edwards at the expense of yet another corner which Harriers failed to capitalise on.
