Harriers bounced back from two games without a win thanks to a crazy ten-minute spell in the second half after being second-best for the first hour. After fielding the same starting line-up for the previous nine games Harriers made changes to the team, one was enforced with Darryl Knights coming in for injured leading scorer Justin Richards while Neil MacKenzie started in place of Andy Ferrell who dropped down to the bench. The changes didn't help Harriers much as they were soon on the back foot after falling behind to Ricky Shakes' 15th minute striker: Harriers' defence was split wide open by a through ball and he had an easy finish slotting past Adam Bartlett. Bartlett came to the rescue towards the end of a scrappy first half; Shakes picked up another pass through the middle and slipped the ball to his right to Craig Stone who saw his shot pushed around the post for a corner by Bartlett. After the break Harriers were slightly better, but not by much, and managed to finally get a shot on target when MacKenzie's long-range effort after Martin Brittain's free-kick hit the wall was blocked. On 62 minutes new signing Stefan Moore was introduced for his debut in place of Knights and immediately made an impact; a deep cross from the left was not cleared by the Ebbsfleet defence and the sub slipped the ball into the path of MacKenzie who drilled a low left-foot shot past Lance Cronin in the visitors' goal. Five minutes later Harriers took the lead; Brittain picked out Moore on the left wing, his first touch was excellent and allowed him to skip past Mark Ricketts before crossing low to the near post where Brian Smikle arrived late to fire in his fifth goal of the season and fourth in the last five games. The turnaround was completed on 74 minutes when Brittain's pass put in Matt Barnes-Homer who showed good strength to hold off Peter Hawkins before firing under Cronin to make it 3-1. There was a chance for United to reduce the arrears eleven minutes from the end; Shakes flicked on a cross from the right to the far post where substitute George Purcell was unmarked but he managed to blast the ball wide when it should have been easier to score. Five minutes from time Moore went close to capping his debut with a goal; Barnes-Homer played the ball out of defence for Brittain on the right wing who picked out the new-boy beyond the far post with an excellent cross but Moore's volley was straight at Cronin who just about managed to hold on to hit. In stoppage time he had another chance, chasing a ball through the inside-left channel he held off a defender before hitting an angled shot that Cronin could only parry but there was nobody following up to capitalise. |
