Referee: Amy Rayner (Leicestershire) |
Harriers stretched their unbeaten run to seven games but had to settle for a hard-fought draw after being let down by their own profligacy in front of goal. Showing just one change from the side that had thrashed Halifax in midweek - Michael Wylde coming in for his first start in place of skipper Mark Creighton who was suffering with blisters - Harriers began the game at a canter and looked set to carry on where they had left off at The Shay. After just seven minutes they were ahead; leading scorer Iyseden Christie continued his hot streak firing in his 17th goal of the season from Andy Ferrell's cross, stretching his scoring run to seven consecutive games. Harriers created a string of chances and should have the game wrapped up by the interval; Wylde had a header cleared off the line by Jack Midson and both Dean Bennett and Andy Ferrell from a direct free kick hit the woodwork as the play-off chasing visitors were forced back onto the defensive. Histon managed just one shot at goal in the first half, Nathaniel Knight-Percival's shot from just inside the penalty area was pushed away for a corner by Dean Coleman. Histon drew level against the run of play seven minutes after the break, Danny Wright bundling the ball over the line after Coleman had fumbled a long throw from the left. Despite the setback Harriers continued to create chances although they wasted nearly all of them through their inability to get their shots on target. On the hour mark Russ Penn was set up by Simon Russell but saw his shot deflected away for a corner by Matthew Mitchell-King. Twenty minutes from the end Russell was the provider again for Christie but his shot was saved by former Bromsgrove keeper Danny Naisbett; a minute later Penn lobbed wide of the target from 35 yards with Naisbett out of position. A good move started by Penn's strong run out of defence led to Ferrell setting up Russell but he shot over the bar. Seven minutes from the end Harriers thought that would get a chance to win the game when Christie was hauled down in the penalty area by Patrick Ada but referee Amy Rayner saw fit to instead award a free-kick to Histon. Moments later Harriers' last chance of the game fell to Christie after a neat one-two with Russell but his delicate chip dropped over the bar. |
