Match Report by St@tto

Harriers successfully negotiated a potential tricky tie to progress to the Second Round of the FA Cup with a professional performance against a spirited Ware side.

There was a boost to Harriers' hopes with the return from injury of James Constable who partnered Iyseden Christie who was making his first start of the season.  Missing from the side that beat Burton were Justin Richards and the suspended Dean Bennett.

The playing surface was the worst that Harriers have experienced for some time, it was both uneven and sloping, and took them some time to adjust to playing on.  The home team were quickest out of the blocks and could have taken the lead in the first minute but John Frendo's shot was saved by Chris MacKenzie low down to his left.

The game became quite scrappy as Harriers soaked up the pressure from the home side.  Eventually, though, they began to get into the game and went close when Constable glanced a header wide from Michael McGrath's left-wing free-kick.  Late in the half Christie's through ball set up Constable who flashed a shot across the face of goal.  In stoppage time Harriers had the ball in the net, Christie turning in Constable's shot from McGrath's corner but he was in an offside position and the goal was ruled out.

After the break Harriers, playing down the slope, began to take control of the game.  Just after the hour mark McGrath made a surging run down the left wing to the byline and crossed to the far post where Constable headed back across the face of goal.  Shortly afterwards McGrath's left-wing corner found Mark Creighton who saw his header cleared off the line by Michael Bardle.

Twenty minutes from the end the game came to life when Harriers were reduced to ten men, Stuart Whitehead pulling Frendo back as he advanced on goal.  After a lengthy hold up Danny Wolf's free-kick was well saved by MacKenzie as it headed towards the top corner after deflecting off the wall.

The deadlock was broken after 75 minutes; Stuart Hammonds fouled Russ Penn just outside the penalty area in the inside-right channel and Michael Blackwood struck the free-kick into the bottom corner.  Four minutes later Constable drilled in the second with a long-range shot that gave Luke Woods in the home goal no chance.

In stoppage time Joe Stevens came close to pulling a goal back for Ware but his near post shot was pushed away by MacKenzie for a corner.  The action was not done yet, however, as Wolf was sent off five minutes into stoppage time after elbowing substitute Jonny Harkness.
