Match Report by St@tto

Harriers slumped to their fourth Conference defeat in a row, victims of a smash-and-grab raid by Gravesend substitute Onome Sodje.

Sodje came off the bench to grab the late winner for The Fleet against the run of play as Harriers battered the visitors throughout the second half for little reward.  Harriers were missing the suspended duo Stuart Whitehead and Iyseden Christie but their stand-ins, Jake Sedgemore and Luke Reynolds performed well in their absence.  However, the spark that christie provides and the organisation that Whitehead provides were missed.

The visitors took the lead after 12 minutes; Harriers failed to deal with Jon Keeling's corner from the right and Stacy Long was able to drive it in from 20 yards out.  Harriers' response was a 25-yard Jonny Harkness free-kick that went just over the bar.  All of Harriers' best chances, in fact, came from set-pieces; Jake Sedgemore also went close with a free-kick, his was on target but straight at keeper Lance Cronin.

After the break Harriers were more determined and drew level seven minutes into the second period.  Harkness' corner from the right dropped perfectly for Reynolds at the far post who equalised with an overhead kick, his fourth goal of the season.  Shortly afterwards James constable and stand-in captain Russ Penn combined to set up Simon Russell in space on the right who fired over the bar from distance.

As the game wore on Harriers built up the pressure and should have taken the lead.  Fifteen minutes from the end Michael Blackwood's cross from the left picked out Russell beyond the far post who knocked it back into the goalmouth where Reynolds' attempted back-heel was cleared off the line by Paul McCarthy.  Soon afterwards Harkness' deep free-kick from the right to the far post was headed back across goal by Constable just out of reach of Reynolds.  Reynolds could have won the game single-handedly for Harriers, he had so many goal scoring chances; seven minutes from the end he swept Russell's low right-wing cross against the far post.  Moments later, however, the visitors snatched their unlikely winner; Mark Creighton was caught in possession on the edge of his own penalty area by Sodje who stroked his shot past Scott Bevan and into the far corner of the net.
