Match Report by St@tto

Harriers made no mistake of despatching their lower-league opponents at the second attempt but three goals in the last ten minutes gave the scoreline a more one-sided look than Vauxhall deserved.

With Iyseden Christie prevented from playing by FA rules Luke Reynolds kept his place in the starting line-up and Michael McGrath came into the side in place of the injured Michael Blackwood.  Harriers started the game the brighter and looked to take control in the same way that they had in the first meeting between the clubs; after just four minutes a deep cross from the right by Jeff Kenna found McGrath at the far post but he headed over the bar.

After their promising start Harriers began to fade a little as they couldn't break down the massed ranks of Vauxhall defenders, the home team playing with just one man up even though they were on their own ground.  Both Simon Russell and Gavin Hurren forced Sean Lake in the home goal into action without really testing him and it was not until six minutes before the break that Harriers finally made the breakthrough.  Lake fumbled McGrath's deflected shot around the post for a corner, and from Jonny Harkness' flag-kick from the left James Constable rose highest to head past Lake, the first goal Harriers have scored from a corner all season.

Early in the second half Constable could have doubled the advantage; put clear by Reynolds' flick on he dragged his shot wide of the far post with only Lake to beat.  Harriers seemed content to hold on to their lead, Vauxhall didn't really seem as lively as they had in the game at Aggborough although while the score was only 1-0 there was always the danger that they could sneak a way back into the match.  Midway through the half Lee Dames' corner from the left found Tom Field beyond the far post but he fired into the side netting.

Harriers responded with good work by Reynolds who got to the byline on the right and pulled the ball back to Brian Smikle who fired over the bar from six yards out.  As the game drew to a close Harriers sealed the result when Smikle's flick on found Constable who calmly lobbed Lake from the edge of the penalty area.  In the last minute Alan Griffiths could only half block a low cross from the right and the ball fell to Constable who gratefully lashed in his third to complete the first Harries hat-trick since February 2003.  Harriers completed the scoring in stoppage time, Harkness' free-kick from the right found an unmarked Constable who saw his header parried by Lake but Andy white was on hand to bundle the ball over the line.
