Match Report by St@tto

A sparkling second-half performance saw Harriers come from behind to bring high-flying Dagenham crashing back to earth.

Mark Yates named a squad unchanged from the one that lost at Aldershot in their previous game and it soon began to look as though that was a mistake as Harriers started as they left off at Aldershot.  Paul Benson's through ball found Craig Mackail-Smith who brushed aside the Harriers defence easily and tucked the ball past Scott Bevan to give the home side a sixth minute lead.

On their last visit to Victoria Road Harriers capitulated and were embarrassed 3-0; this time they buckled down and apart from a Glen Southam free-kick that Bevan spilled round the post for a corner, they were not troubled too much by The Daggers.  The home team did have more chances in the first half, Mackail-Smith got a free header that he couldn't direct and a through ball in the inside-right channel set Benson free, Bevan miskicked his clearance as he came out to meet him but Benson then fired over the open goal.  At the other end Craig Nelthorpe did well on the left to set up Reuben reid but his first touch let him down and Anwar Uddin was able to clear.

After the break Harriers came out fired up and pressed for an equaliser from the start.  Simon Russell broke into the penalty area on the right and pulled the ball back to Iyseden Christie who saw his shot cleared off the line by Dave Rainford.  The respite was brief for the home team; Christie set Hurren away on the right, his shot from the edge of the penalty area beat Tony Roberts and cannoned back off the post but Russell was on hand to steer in the rebound from close range.  Shortly afterwards Hurren was unlucky again when his shot was cleared off the line by Southam.

Harriers got their noses in front twenty minutes from time; Russell slipped the ball through to Reid on the left and he lashed the ball past Roberts from close range.  At the other end Dagenham were having no luck, their threat was almost totally snuffed out in the second half and it was two minutes from time before they threatened an equaliser.  A corner from the right found Benson at the far post who knocked the ball down to Mackail-Smith but the hard-working Christie was back in defence to clear.  Harriers wrapped up the points in the last minute, Andy White came on as a sub for Reid and with his first touch, barely 20 seconds after coming on, tucked a low shot under Roberts from the edge of the penalty area.
