Match Report by St@tto

Harriers' sorry start to the season continued with another toothless display in front of their own supporters that leaves them still searching for their first home win of the season and 416 minutes since they last scored a goal.

Mark Yates decided to play two men in attack but it had little effect on the team's performance as Iyseden Christie and Luke Reynolds, who returned to the starting line-up at the expense of Jamie McClen, were isolated in attack and has little support or supply from the midfield.  Tamworth included four ex-Harriers in their starting line-up: Adie Smith, John McGrath, Simon Weaver, and Taiwo Atieno.

Atieno was keen to impress against one of his former clubs and went close to opening the scoring after just ten minutes; Graham Deakin got free on the right and his cross found the striker unmarked at the far post but he headed wide.  A dour first half was short on goalmouth incident and it was midway through the half before Harriers mustered anything, Jake Sedgemore's corner from the left was headed wide of the far post by Mark Creighton.  Harriers' best move of the game came soon afterwards; Sedgemore made a crucial interception in midfield and found Michael Blackwood whose pass set Christie free through the inside left channel. His shot was wide of the far post but ghosting up unseen was Brian Smikle who met it but was only able to steer it into the side netting.

At the other end good work by Smith created an opening for Deakin but he blasted his shot over the bar.  Harriers' last chance of the half fell to Christie after Reynolds and Smikle had combined but he shot high and wide.

Tamworth took just seven minutes of the second half to open the scoring; substitute Steve Burton crossed from the left to Atieno at the far post who fired past Bevan despite the best efforts of Blackwood to stop him.  Reynolds wasted a good opportunity to get Harriers back on level terms soon afterwards when he blasted Christie's knock-down over the bar.  John McGrath created the second Tamworth goal after 63 minutes with a free-kick from deep on the left that found an unmarked Bradley Thomas at the far post who headed past Bevan with ease.

The second half was a poor offering with two poor teams who struggled to find any rhythm or creativity.  In an effort to spark some life into his team Yates sent on Michael McGrath to play just behind the strikers at the expense of a defender but he had little impact on the game.  Dean Sturridge came on in place of Reynolds but he lasted a little over seven minutes before being injured in a challenge with Gavin McCallum and left the field on a stretcher.  There was no more goalmouth action until the last minute when Burton was allowed to run at the Harriers defence on the right before switching the play to Joe Kendrick on the opposite flank but his long range shot was straight at Bevan.  Referee Evans added over six minutes of stoppage time at the end of the game but he could have added six hours and Harriers would not have looked like getting back into the game or threatening the visitors' goal.
