More dross from the Harriers sees them relegated to The Conference, barring a freak set of high-scoring results - Harriers must win two, Rushden must lose two and there needs to be a swing towards Harriers in the goal difference of 21 - ending their five-year spell in the Football League.

Harriers needed to repeat their performance of the closing stages of the game against leaders Yeovil and go all-out for goals but it didn't take long for the hopes of such a performance to evaporate.  Mark Rawle was brought in to start against one of his former clubs in place of the rested Chris Beardsley while Iyseden Christie made a surprise return to the subs' bench after recovering from an injury that looked to have ended his season.

After a couple of close calls in the opening minutes Harriers fell behind after a quarter of an hour to a typically sloppy goal; Danny Thomas was able to get free on the left wing unchallenged all the way to the byline and pulled the ball back across the face of goal to Jermaine Easter who was left with an easy tap-in from three yards out. It was not the start that Harriers wanted and they were unable to react well to it. They did rally briefly, their best chance of the first half came midway through, a free kick from Tom Bennett, also playing against his former club found Wayne Hatswell on the edge of the penalty area who directed his header straight at Boston keeper Nathan Abbey.

The dangerous Brad Maylett created the second goal, but it was really the Harriers defence to blame as so often throughout this season, his left-wing corner was flicked on by Austin McCann to the far post where Jason Lee was able to force it over the line under pressure from Harriers skipper Mark Jackson. Harriers had no reply and by now, 27 minutes into the match, the game was over.  The game came to life in stoppage time at the end of the first half, Jackson and Lee clashed in the Boston half and the Boston man head-butted Jackson leaving him in a heap on the ground.  Lee was shown the red card for his trouble, Jackson the yellow, and Harriers now had a lifeline although it was tempered by the fact that they went into the interval trailing for the 18th time this season and the previous 17 had all ended in defeat.

After the break Stuart Watkiss changed the Harriers formation, Beardsley came on in attack in place of Simon Weaver, Bennett had already been withdrawn in the first half, and the formation changed to 3-4-3. Despite the fact that they were down a man and had nothing to play for, it was Boston who still looked the better side as they sat back to defend their lead.

Harriers went close to reducing the deficit early in the half when Beardsley got to the goalline on the left and pulled the ball back to the near post to Blair Sturrock who somehow manage d to steer it over the bar.  On the hour Abbey was called into action by Dean Keates whose 30 yard strike from Billy Jones' quickly taken free kick was an easy catch for him.  Rawle went close with a header that dropped just over the crossbar from Hatswell's long punt forward.

The game was completely ended as a contest on 68 minutes, man-of-the-match Maylett picked up the ball on the right wing, cut inside leaving Hatswell for dead and drilled a low shot inside the near post to make it 3-0.  Harriers bad a couple of chances to get on the scoresheet in the closing stages; John McGrath had a shot tipped over the bar from a Jones corner and in stoppage time Beardsley's cross from the right found Rawle at the far post but his downward header was well saved by Abbey low to his left.
