Match Report by St@tto

Another woeful performance from Harriers saw them easily defeated by The Imps, a result that leaves them alone at the foot of League Two.

Kelvin Langmead and Jesper Christiansen were recalled to the starting line-up at the expense of Youssou Diop and Ian Foster but their attacking threat was minimal and Harriers spent most of the game defending.  It could have been different, however, when after just two minutes Richie Appleby's cross from the right was headed of the far post by Lee Jenkins; Christiansen was in a better position behind him but obviously didn't shout loudly enough.

There was a let-off for Harriers soon afterwards, Peter Gain's snap-shot was beaten away by John Danby in the Harriers goal but with no defenders getting back to cover Gary Taylor-Fletcher fired the loose ball into the back of the net; fortunatley the linesman had his flag raised and the goal was ruled out.  The remainder of the first half was an uninspiring event, the home team played in their expected direct styleand Harriers central defenders Chris McHale and Wayne Hatswell took quite a battering from the City front men.  Three minutes before the break the game was ended when Lincoln took the lead; a Harriers attack broke down when Steve Burton's erratic distribution let him down again and he gave possession away well inside the City half, a quick break put Simon Yeo clear on goal, Danby came out to clear but only succeeded in knocking the ball back to Yeo who took it round him and rolled it into the empty net from the edge of the penalty area.

Early in the second half Harriers had a half-chance to pull a goal back, Burton found Christiansen on the left but after a good turn that left Matt Bloomer floundering in his wake the big Dane could only chip his shot over the bar.  After 57 minutes City went further ahead, Bloomer found Martin Carruthers and his chip across the face of goal was headed in by Kevin Sandwith as the Harriers back line stood statue-like and watched.

On the hour Taylor-Fletcher beat McHale to the ball and set up Yeo who broke into the penalty area on the left but after evading the Harriers defence he shot into the side netting.  On 73 minutes Harriers finally got a shot on target; Christiansen received the ball from the left, held it up well and knocked it back into the path of substitute Ian Foster but his effort was weak and fell stright into the arms of Alan Marriott.  Moments later City had their third goal, Sandwith's corner from the right was only half cleared and when he played the ball back into the penalty area the Harriers defence had gone missing and Taylor-Fletcher was left with an easy glancing header to score.

By the end the score could have been greater, another corner led to a Sandwith cross that Taylor-Fletcher headed over the bar and then a free-kick 25 yards from goal was taken by Sandwith, he hit it with such venom that Danby was left grasping at thin air as it flew past him before crashing against the post.
