Match Report by St@tto
A display of commitment and determination by Harriers earned them a point agaisnt high-flying Swansea, and had it not been for the reflexes of Swans keeper Roger Freestone it could have been all three.  The performance wasn't enough for the Harriers board, however, who had already lined-up a replacement for the manager and sacked Ian Britton after the game.

The game was often scrappy in the first half as Harriers stifled and frustrated their hosts and limited the number of goalscoring chances to a minimum.  Wayne Hatswell was introduced at the heart of the Harriers defence and gave a solid performance that showed his teammates the proper way to defend, barely a thing got past him and even though he was booked after 25 minutes he did not let that affect his performance and he continued to get stuck in.

Harriers even managed to create a couple of chances themselves, after half an hour JJ Melligan and Graham Ward exchanged passes on the right and Melligan rounded off the move with a shot that went just wide.  Four minutes before the break Hatswell pumped a fere kick into the Swansea penalty area where Adie Smith was in space but he could not direct his header at the target.  In stoppage time Mark Wilson attacked on the right and his cross to the far post where Lennie Johnrose rose unmarked but headed wide.

After the break Harriers came out with more purpose and soon had Swansea on the defensive.  Two minutes into the half Dean Bennett had a long range shot blocked and although the home defence cleared it Harriers quickly regained possession and Melligan was again on the end of the move but shot just wide.  At the other end the Harriers defence was still holding firm, Kevin Nugent found himself in front of goal but Kenny Coleman threw himself in the way and the danger was cleared.

Coleman was involved again shortly afterwards at the other end when he was fouled on the edge of the penalty area by Kristian O'Leary.  Danny Williams lined up another of his free kicks but this time the wall did it's job and blocked the kick but the ball rebounded to Coleman who hit a powerful drive from nearly 30 yards out that flew just over the bar.

Hatswell continued to dominate the Harriers defence, midway through the half Leon Britton received the ball in a dangerous position but before he could get a shot in Hatswell had cleared the ball off his foot.  Harriers continued to press and Melligan made a good run through the Swans defence on the left, he ended his run with a weak shot from outside the penalty area when John Wiliams was in a better postition to his right.  Moments later Kenny Coleman hit another shot over the bar.

Eleven minutes from the end all of Harriers good work was nearly undone, a long ball out of defence found Nugent in a good position he took one touch to control the ball and then beat Stuart Brock wwith his shot but to the relief of evrey Harrier in the ground the ball came back off the post and then Wilson following up fired wide.  Five minutes from the end a Roberto Martinez free kick found Brad Maylett in the Harriers penalty area but he headed weakly at Brock.  At the death Harriers nearly snatched the points, John Williams outpaced the home defence and hit a good shot that Freestone did well to stretch out a hand to and push round the post.
