After a delay of over an hour as a result of a power failure, Harriers came out on top of a
thrilling cup tie with a dramatic Golden-Goal winner after having found themselves two goal
down early in the second half.
Both teams approached the game looking for victory and exchanged chances in an even first half,
Drewe Broughton had a 25 yard shot saved by Craig Farr in the visitors' goal and at the other
end John Jackson floated a left wing free kick into the goalmouth that Matt Heywood headed
just wide. The visitors took the lead seven minutes before the break, Danny Invincible
held off the challenge of Abdou Sall to tuck a shot inside the near post that Stuart Brock
got a hand to but couldn't prevent from going in.
The game sprang to life after the interval, Alan Young capitalised on a defensive mix-up between
Craig Hinton and Brock to put Swindon two up, but within seconds a great run into the Swindon
penalty area by Sean Parrish created the opportunity for JJ Melligan to fire Harriers back
into the game. A minute later Ian Foster broke free on the right and his low cross to
the far post found Drewe Broughton who forced the ball in from close range to equalise despite
the best efforts of Farr. Both teams had good chances to win the game as the contest
ebbed and flowe from end-to-end but were unable to capitalise, Melligan set up Foster who shot
over the bar seventeen minutes from time and ten minutes later substitute Sam Parkin set up
Young at the other end but Brock came out well to smother the shot. Four minutes from
time a great crossfield pass by Broughton set up Melligan but he shot wide.
Three minutes into extra time Sam Parkin thought that he had won the game for Swindon, David Duke's initial
effort came back off the crossbar to Parkin who headed the ball back towards goal but Invincible
turned it in on the line after he had strayed offside and the goal was ruled out. The winning goal came
for the home team right at the end of the first period of extra time, Sam Shilton swung a
wicked corner over from the right to the far post where Abdou Sall dived to head in from close
range.
