Match Report by St@tto |
Another solid defensive performance helped Harriers to a well-deserved point at The
Matchroom Stadium at Brisbane Road.
Robbed through injury of Mark Blake, Craig Hinton, Abdou Sall, Dean Bennett and Bo Henriksen, Harriers were reduced to just fifteen fit players to choose from but manager Ian Britton still managed to come up with a plan to combat Orient with their 100% home record. The first half was short on goalmouth action, Orient had plenty of possession but rarely threatened the Harriers goal. The first real danger they posed was ten minutes before the break: the dangerous Matthew Brazier crossed from the left, Stuart Brock failed to collect and Jamal Campbell-Ryce fired into the side netting at the far post. Two minutes before the interval Brock was called upon to save from Matt Lockwood's 25 yard free-kick. After the break the game continued in a similar fashion, but the home team and their supporters were getting increasingly frustrated at their inability to break down the visitors' defences. Midway through the half the game sprang into life when Orient substitute John Martin tangled with Drewe Broughton and several players from each side waded in and a full scale brawl threatened to ensue. After the officials had restored order, both Martin and Broughton had their names taken with Broughton lucky to stay on the field after his reaction to Martin's challenge. As the game wore on Harriers began to exert themselves and Broughton managed their first shot on target in the last minute which Rhys Evans had to scramble across his goal to push it out for a corner. Orient had been forced to change their style of play during the second hald as Ian Britton out-thought them throughout and towards the end of the game they seemed to be running out of ideas as Harriers got on top. Had Harriers begun to take control a little earlier they may have managed to make the breakthrough but the home team manged to hold on. |
