Match Report by St@tto |
A makeshift Harriers side scraped a narrow victory over Solihull to reach the
Worcestershire Senior Cup Final for the fourth time in five seasons.
A dour first half saw Harriers dominate possession and create a string of chances with Peter Faulds scoring his first senior goal following good work by Matt Lewis although former Harriers keeper Brendan Murphy will be unhappy that he allowed the ball to go underneath him after getting a hand to it. At the other end, John Danby pulled off a fine save to deny Derek Hall from close range. Murphy redeemed himself later in the half with a double save first from Andy Corbett and then Faulds' follow-up. Solihull grabbed an equaliser soon after the interval when Simon Hollis drilled a shot past the dive of John Danby. The game began to deteriorate and extra-time beckoned a long time before the half was over, Harriers created fewer chances and Danby was called upon to keep the visitors at bay first from Jamie Campbell and later from Simon Hollis. Harriers' only real chance of the second half was a shot from Corbett that Murphy saved. In extra-time Harriers began to exert their superiority as tiredness began to set in to the visitors, but still they didn't trouble Murphy. Eventually the winner came, however, Daire Doyle who had faded out of the game after a good first half slipped the ball through the Borough defence to Matt Lewis who rifled his shot inside the near post for his first senior goal. |
