Match Report by St@tto
The Football League's smallest crowd of the season saw a toothless display put a serious dent in their play-off hopes.

With a trip to in-form Luton, who have won seven in a row, coming up victory over a Halifax side that had not won since January 19 was imperative.  The bottom-of-the-league side quickly dragged Harriers down to their level, however, and the visitors, despite having most of the possession throughout the match, gave one of their most abject performances of the season.

Adie Smith returned to the side after a brief absence through injury, but that was offset by Colin Larkin who clearly wasn't at his best and for much of the first half carried the air of a man who would rather have been a home in front of the TV.  Already short of his normal speed, a heavy challenge late in the first half finished him off and he didn't return after the break.

The home team took a shock lead after just eight minutes when Craig Midgley, obviously not suspended as previously reported, chased a hopeful long through ball, outpaced the defence and calmly tucked his shot past the advancing Brock.  For all of their possession, Harriers never really threatened Barry Richardson in the home goal and their best effort was a weak looping header from Abdou Sall that he gathered easily.

After the break it was more of the same, although as the game wore on Harriers efforts became more frantic and less considered but equally undaunting for the home defence.  Midway through the half The Shaymen had two good chances to double their lead, first Gary Jones got the better of Sall in the penalty area but ballooned his shot way over the bar, and then moments later Midgley struck te bar with a snap shot from the edge of the area.

With time running out Harriers eventually came close to finding an equaliser, substitute Tony Bird didn't quite make full contact as he tried a volley and Richardson was able to catch it cleanly, then Broughton steered the ball against the post, and Adie Smith came closest when his far post header ran across the face of goal before being hoofed to safety.  Halifax held on for the points which will give them no help at all as they are still nine points adrift at the foot of the table and have played four games more than the team above them, while Harriers will have to get something from Luton to salvage something from the week and keep their play-off hopes alive.
