Match Report by St@tto |
Harriers had to settle for a point after having the best of an
entertaining game at Field Mill.
An early Adie Smith goal gave Harriers the lead which they held until three minutes from time when Mansfield, who had been reduced to ten men, grabbed a fortunate equaliser. Both teams started the game looking to attack and the play ebbed and flowed from end to end, although there were few clear cut scoring opportunities. Harriers took the lead on 19 minutes when good work by Dean Bennett on the right allowed him to cross to the far post where Adie Smith rose to head home his first goal of the season. At the other end, Stuart Brock saved well from Shayne Bradley when he was put clear by Chris Greenacre. Poor finishing from Harriers denied them the second goal which they needed, Appleby, Sall and Williams all shot wastefully high or wide. After the break Harriers were forced to sit back and soak up more pressure as the Stags came forward in search of an equaliser. Brock saved from Braley for a second time and Abdou Sall cleared a Greenacrer affort of the line. Although they had plenty of possession, Harriers didn't relly threaten to score again, their approach play lacked the killer final pass. With 15 minutes remaining, the game had a new twist when Greenacre was shown a second yellow card after a foul on Williams and sent off. This sparked a spate of bookings with three Harriers all having their names taken in the neext eight minutes. As time ran out Mansfield found their equaliser, Pemberton mis-hit his shot from the edge of the penalty areaa and it just crept inside the post. Harriers piled forward in stoppage time and Drewe Broughton almost grabbed a dramatic winner but Pilkington manged to claw away his looping header and the game ended all square. |
