Match Report by St@tto |
Harriers recorded a fourth successive league victory, and so ended
Rushden's 12-game unbeaten run, in the meeting of the last two
Conference champions.
The game started at a brisk pace, and flowed from end to end, but soon became quite scrappy wit little goalmouth action. The best move of the half gave Harriers the lead, Appleby's pass split the visiting defence and found Larkin on the right. His cross from the byline founs Bennett at the far post who turned the ball in under pressure from Sambrook to claim his fourth goal in five games. Rushden's best chance of the half came in the closing minutes, a 25-yard Hanlon free-kick was arrowing towards the top corner but Stuart Brock dived to his right to brilliantly turn the ball round the post. Harriers' opening goal, and the subsequent save of a certain goal seemed to knock the stuffing out of the Diamonds, and after the break they were second best. Harriers attacked from the off and for once looked dangerous every time they went forwards. Often in previous matches they have created a string of chances without ever looking as though they would score them. This time was different, although there were fewer chances most could have ended in the back of the net. Captain Mark Blake set Colin Larkin free with a great through ball early in the half and he chipped the onrushing Turley only to see the ball drop just over the bar. Hall almost equalised with 20 minutes remaining when he pounced as Craig Hinton's header to Brock fell short. The midfielder managed to take it around Brock but could only steer his shot into the side netting. Harriers killed the game off with six minutes remaining. First Scott Stamps' cross was met by the head of skipper Blake and then staright from the kick-off Larkin picked up the ball and made no mistake with his finish. |
