Match Report |
Harriers recorded their second consecutive home win against a very
disappointing Bristol Rovers side who have now gome eight league
matches without a win.
Rovers started at a brisk pace and took the game to Harriers in the opening minutes with former Villa and Liverpool winger Mark Walters looking particularly dangerous on the left wing. Harriers weathered the early strom, however, and the game became quite scrappy. Goalscoring chances were few and far between, Mark Blake came closest to opening the scoring but hit his shot weakly straight at Scott Howie in the Rovers goal. Harriers began to exert themselves and took the lead when Dean Bennett latched onto Drewe Broughton's knock-down and tucked away his first goal of the season. After the break Harriers stepped up a gear and took control of the game. Good work by Danny Williamas set up Broughton to double the lead on the hour which was what Harriers needed as Rovers had managed to create a couple of chances. Substitute Kevin Gall had a shot well saved by Brock who also tipped a long range Dwayne Plummer shot over the bar. Sam Shilton came on in place of Ian Foster and took his place up front. In a lively fourteen minute spell he had one shot saved and hit the bar with a delightul chip which had Howie stranded in the middle of nowhere. Harriers had to hold out for a considerable amount of stoppage time that referee Danson had added on for all of the writing he had done - eight players found their names in his notebook although the game was not a dirty one. |
